Kehillah of Old York Road Presents Maccabeats, Israeli-Style Market & More to Celebrate Israel Independence Day: All Are Invited
Celebrate Israel Independence Day with The Maccabeats, a premiere a capella group, at Gratz College on Thursday, May 12, 2016 at 6:00 p.m.
Often traveling with little more than the shirts on their backs and the ties around their necks, The Maccabeats have entertained and inspired audiences worldwide. Using nothing more than the human voice, a clean-cut presentation, and a little Jewish humor, this group of singers is able to connect with fans of all ages and from varied backgrounds.
Though The Maccabeats aren’t “your grandfather’s synagogue choir,” their ideology and identity play an important part in what they do. Strongly committed to the philosophy of Torah u-Madda, the integration of traditional and secular wisdom, The Maccabeats perform an eclectic array of Jewish, American, and Israeli songs. Tickets for this captivating musical event are just $5.00 per person.
Join us before The Maccabeats performance for an Israeli-style market, kids’ activities and kosher food starting at 5:00 p.m.! Following the Maccabeats performance, around 8:30 p.m., the party moves to Adath Jeshurun for dessert, music and dancing with Israeli dancers.
This event is a collaboration of The Kehillah (Community) of Old York Road, PhillyIsrael, and the Jewish Federation of Greater Philadelphia. “Our goal is to bring together Jews who are either synagogue affiliated or unaffiliated, as well as Jews currently living or considering living in the Old York Road corridor, to celebrate” says Kehillah co-chair Janet Wischnia. She continues, “We live in the perfect location to raise a family and offer a great variety of educational and communal options for living an engaged Jewish life.” For more information about Kehillah of Old York Road activities, visit our Facebook page “The New Kehillah of Old York Road.”
